Open Burning Season Starts October 15, 2026

Open burning is permitted within the District of Lillooet from October 15, 2026 until May 14, 2027, or until further notice.

Open burning is for yard waste and natural vegetation from your property only. The District of Lillooet Fire Department Establishment and Fire Prevention Bylaw 2018 No. 461 lists the materials that cannot be burned.

Campfires (Category 1)

Campfires do not need a permit. A campfire can be no larger than 0.5 m high by 0.5 m wide.

Category 2 and 3 burns

Category 2 and 3 burns need a free burning permit from the reception desk at Municipal Hall.

  • Category 2 is one or two piles, each no larger than 2 m high by 3 m wide.

  • Category 3 is any pile larger than 2 m high by 3 m wide, or three or more piles burning at once.

Category 2 and 3 burns are only permitted on good venting days, even if you have a permit. Permit holders must follow all the requirements on their permit and in the bylaw.

Anyone who does not follow the bylaw may be subject to fines and penalties. For more information, check the District of Lillooet Fire Department Establishment and Fire Prevention Bylaw 2018 No. 461 for a list of materials that are prohibited from being burned.
