Kamloops Fire Centre campfire rescinded September 3, 2026

The campfire ban for the Kamloops Fire Centre has been rescinded and Category 1 campfires are now allowed.

What counts as a Category 1 campfire

A Category 1 campfire is no larger than half a metre high by half a metre wide. That is roughly knee height and about the width of a car tire. Anything bigger is a Category 2 fire and is still banned.

The size limit is the part people get wrong. A fire that starts within the limit and gets fed through the evening will not stay within it. Build it small and keep it that way.

What is still banned

Category 2 and 3 open fires, which covers most burn piles and grass burning. Burn barrels and burn cages of any size, unless used for a Category 1 campfire. Controlled air incinerators.

If you choose to have a campfire:

• Never leave it unattended

• Keep it small and manageable

• Have water and hand tools on hand

• Make sure it is fully out and cold to the touch before you leave

• Do not burn on windy days
