Alert status (District of Lillooet): The District remains on evacuation alert for Cook's Road, Roshard Road, Mitchell Road, and the three properties on Texas Creek Road. This is unchanged. All areas around the fire remain on evacuation alert, with no evacuation orders in place.
What’s new:
• The Province has ended the state of emergency that was declared this summer for wildfires. Wildfire risk in our area remains high, so please stay alert.
• The off-road vehicle prohibition across the Kamloops Fire Centre has been rescinded, effective noon today. Campfires and open fires are still banned across the Kamloops Fire Centre until October 9, so please do not light any fires.
Drones remain banned in this fire's flight-restricted airspace. Flying one is illegal and can ground the aircraft crews depend on.
Rolling debris and rocks remain a key safety concern. Please take care and follow all evacuation alerts in your area.

Alert status (District of Lillooet): The District remains on evacuation alert for Cook's Road, Roshard Road, Mitchell Road, and the three properties on Texas Creek Road. This is unchanged. There is good news across the area: all evacuation orders for the Riley Creek fire have now been downgraded to evacuation alerts. Everyone should still be ready to leave on short notice.
Do not fly drones in wildfire restricted airspace. Every wildfire in BC is automatically flight-restricted, and that includes the Riley Creek fire. On August 25, a drone was flown inside this restricted airspace. If a drone hits a firefighting aircraft the results could be deadly, and even the risk of one grounds the aircraft crews depend on. The restriction covers the airspace within five nautical miles of any wildfire or smoke and up to 3,000 feet above the ground. Penalties include fines and possible jail time. Please keep every drone out of this airspace.
What's new today, from BC Wildfire Service:
Structure protection equipment has now been fully demobilized from the fire. You may still see some equipment on certain First Nation properties, supported through the First Nations' Emergency Services Society (FNESS).
Today is hot, dry and windy, with south to southeast winds gusting to 35 km/h and crossover conditions. Fire behaviour may increase in places, so expect to see visible smoke.

Neighbouring communities have a change in their orders: The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District has downgraded its Riley Creek evacuation order for Electoral Area B to an evacuation alert. BCWS crews are still active in the area finishing demobilization and cleanup. If you are returning home, please follow SLRD's re-entry and recovery guidance first (linked below) and check your route on DriveBC. Other authorities' orders and alerts remain in place, so please check your community's channels for your status.

• Rain over the last few days has helped subdue fire activity. It has also left the ground unstable, which raises the risk of rolling debris and rocks.
• BCWS is continuing to reduce structure protection equipment to the north and east of the fire, where there is no longer an active threat, thanks to minimal growth and the progress crews are making.
• Texas Creek Road remains open and responders are actively working in the area. The Texas Creek Forest Service Road is closed due to fire activity. The fire has not crossed to the east side of Texas Creek Road or the Fraser River.

What's new today, from BC Wildfire Service:
The fire is now mapped at 3,650 hectares and remains out of control.
We are seeing increased fire activity on the southwest flank. Yesterday, personnel observed Rank 3 fire behaviour there, open flame, occasional candling, and a moderate rate of spread on upslope growth. This area remains inaccessible to ground crews, and crews are working on gaining access to be able to fight the fire directly.
On the east flank, crews are now working a wetline over 250 feet long and are clearing unburnt fuel next to the fire's edge between Riley Creek and Texas Creek, to reduce the risk from rolling debris.
Resources assigned to the fire now include an Incident Management Team, 43 firefighting personnel, six helicopters, five pieces of heavy equipment, and 12 structure protection personnel.
Weather: Today's forecast calls for a high of 37 degrees with humidity dropping to 17%, westerly winds 15 to 20 km/h with gusts to 30, and a chance of dry lightning this evening. Heading into the weekend, temperatures drop to the mid to high 20s with a risk of thunderstorms and showers Saturday.

What's new today, from BC Wildfire Service:
BC Wildfire Service is beginning to reduce structure protection equipment to the north of the Riley Creek fire, as there has been minimal growth in this area. This equipment was set up in evacuation alert areas in an abundance of caution, and the areas where it is being reduced remain under an Evacuation Alert. You may still see Structural Protection Unit equipment on some properties in the area, which supports First Nation communities through funding and support agreements with the First Nations' Emergency Services Society (FNESS).
In today's hot, dry weather, BC Wildfire Service expects fire behaviour to increase during the afternoon's peak burning period, which is likely to produce smoke visible to the community.
The fire has not crossed to the east side of Texas Creek Road or the Fraser River. Texas Creek Road remains open and responders are actively working in the area, so please obey all signage and drive with care.

What's new today, from BC Wildfire Service:
• The two structure defence crews that had been on site overnight for proactive support finished their final night on August 16. The structural protection units and their crews remain in place, and Initial Attack and Unit crews continue to patrol the fire overnight.
• The sprinkler line set up in Texas Creek has prevented the fire from crossing the drainage where the sprinkler is active. The fire has now crossed the drainage in the upper catchment area at high altitude to the west.
• The fire has not crossed to the east side of Texas Creek Road or the Fraser River. Texas Creek Road remains open and responders are actively working in the area, so please obey all signage and drive with care.
• The southwest flank is displaying the highest fire activity, emitting highly visible smoke, burning at high elevation in steep and rocky terrain. The north and east flanks saw minimal activity, a smoldering ground fire with no open flame.
• On the east flank, crews are continuing a 200-foot wetline.

What's new today:
Most of the fire's activity today is on the northern flank near Riley Creek, high up in the rock, with minimal growth.
Overnight, crews flew a drone scan to find hotspots on the northeast and southeast flanks.
On the eastern flank, crews are building a 100-foot wetline to hold the edge.
Down in the valley, the sprinkler line at Texas Creek is keeping the fire from crossing the drainage. The fire has not crossed to the east side of Texas Creek Road or the Fraser River.
Winds are expected to shift to the east and southeast and stay gusty this afternoon.

• The extra smoke today is the fire reaching fresh fuel high on the ridge
• The team managing the fire now includes crews from Australia. Welcome! 🐨
• A little rain fell overnight, with 1.5 mm recorded at Lillooet.
• The fire is backing down the southern flank slowly, in isolated patches. Down in the valley, the sprinkler line is holding it at Texas Creek.
• On the north side, crews are strengthening containment lines between Cat Creek and Riley Creek with small tactical burn-outs.

Planned ignitions: BC Wildfire Service has been carrying out small, planned ignitions east of the fire to reinforce fuel-free lines and limit its spread. This is deliberate work by crews, not the fire crossing new ground. In their words, "Dry grasses and debris burn fast and emit white or grey smoke that is likely to be highly visible for the surrounding area." Fire behaviour: The fire is now 1,288 hectares and out of control. From BC Wildfire Service: "Overnight growth was observed downslope on the fire's southeast flank, out of the Riley Creek, Cat Creek and Towinock Creek drainages. Ground crews and heavy equipment are constructing control lines and using water delivery systems to suppress the fire in accessible areas. Helicopters are conducting reconnaissance and bucketing fire retardant to slow the fire's spread downslope, as visibility allows. Strengthening southwest winds are expected to develop throughout the afternoon and into the evening. On Saturday, conditions are expected to remain dry with the risk of elevated winds and dry lightning in the afternoon."

Fire Behaviour & Response: The fire continues to burn in very steep and rocky terrain that poses a safety risk for responders. Heavy equipment and fallers are continuing to build control lines to the east of the fire and south parallel to Texas Creek road. Today BCWS is stationing a mobile retardant tank in the immediate area of the Riley Creek wildfire. The fire has continued to slowly spread on the eastern flank. As there are currently no safe areas to anchor crews or resources, the fire is being monitored by frequent flights and continually assessed for achievable objectives.

At this time there are still no safe areas to anchor crews and resources for direct attack fire suppression, however BCWS are constantly assessing for achievable objectives.

Fire behaviour: BC Wildfire Service has updated Riley Creek to 916 hectares and out of control. Due to recent growth on the south flank of the fire, the size has been updated after a more accurate track. It continues to burn upslope at high elevation on ground BCWS calls steep, rocky and unstable. The area is entering a warming and drying trend, and smoke will be highly visible on days when stronger winds and higher temperatures increase fire activity. Structure protection personnel, out-of-town firefighters and equipment remain in the Texas Creek Road area.

BC Wildfire Service lists Riley Creek at 675 hectares and out of control, unchanged. It continues to burn at high elevation on ground BCWS calls steep, rocky and unstable. You will keep seeing structure protection personnel, out-of-town firefighters and equipment in the Texas Creek Road area.

More firefighters on Texas Creek Road: Over the next two weeks you will likely see more firefighters and equipment in the area, including BC Wildfire Service crews, contractors and other fire departments. Crews are building containment lines in the valley bottom and setting up structure protection.
Irrigation and water lines: If you have a system in the work area, BCWS is working to avoid it. Line locators are being used and structure protection specialist is asking residents about their systems directly.

BC Wildfire Service now lists Riley Creek at 525 hectares and out of control.
You may see increased BCWS activity in and around the community over the coming days and heavy equipment has started building control lines by clearing existing roads, and danger tree work is underway. Please give them room to work.
Today, BC Wildfire Service expects temperatures to ease slightly, but winds should stay elevated and fire activity is expected to increase this afternoon. You will likely see smoke and at times visible flame. That does not mean the situation has changed for the community. The helicopters you see are reconnaissance machines, not bucketing, because there is nowhere safe to anchor crews in terrain this steep.
Farmers and ranchers: the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District has 24/7 agricultural emergency support. Call the Agricultural Coordinator at 604-384-7329, and call early rather than waiting for an evacuation. If you own livestock, bees or poultry, make sure your Premises ID is current. The District of Lillooet EOC continues to monitor the Riley Creek wildfire (K70659), about 9 km south of town. Here is the latest from BC Wildfire Service.
Current status: The fire is out of control and mapped at 280 hectares. BC Wildfire Service says much of that increase is more accurate mapping, not sudden growth. It was lightning-caused on June 24 and is burning upslope in steep, rocky terrain.
The response: Crews are now on this fire. As of today, July 24, a four-person crew, a helicopter, and heavy equipment are assigned. Crews are falling hazardous trees and heavy equipment is building a control line. Much of the fire is in terrain too steep and unstable to work on safely from the ground, so those areas are monitored closely by air. The helicopter is doing reconnaissance and support; aircraft are a visible part of the response but do not put fires out on their own. BCWS has plans and trigger points in place should conditions change.
What this means for you: The District's evacuation alert remains in place for Cook's, Roshard, and Mitchell Roads. An alert means be ready to leave on short notice, not leave now. You may see more smoke on hot, windy days, and seeing smoke or flame does not mean the situation has changed for the community.

The Evacuation Alert remains in effect for Cook's Road, Roshard Road and Mitchell Road only. The rest of the District is not affected.
The District has stood up a Level 1 Emergency Operations Centre with members from the Lillooet Fire Department and District of Lillooet. We are in regular contact with BC Wildfire Service, RCMP and our regional partners, and monitoring the situation closely.
If you are in the alert area:
· Be ready to leave on short notice
· Know your route and have a meeting place outside the area
· Keep documents, medications and supplies ready
· Pre-register with Emergency Support Services at ess.gov.bc.ca
Fire behavior may change with the afternoon westerly winds, so we may experience periods of increased activity later in the day.

An Evacuation Alert has been issued by the District of Lillooet on July 23, 2026 at 00:30hrs due to the Riley Creek Wildfire (K70659) burning south of the District and potential danger to life and health.
The Evacuation Alert is in effect for the following areas:
• All properties on Cook's Road
• All properties on Roshard Road
• All properties on Mitchell Road
• All properties as outlined on the attached map
An Evacuation Alert has been issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to rapidly changing conditions.
This is an Evacuation Alert, not an Evacuation Order. Residents do not need to leave the area at this time.
WHEN AN EVACUATION ALERT IS IN EFFECT, RESIDENTS SHOULD:
• Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area, should an Evacuation Order be called while separated.
• Gather essential items such as medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (insurance, identification), immediate care needs for dependents and, if you choose, keepsakes and photographs. Have these ready for a quick departure.
• Prepare to move persons with mobility or medical challenges, and children.
• Prepare to move pets and livestock.
• Ensure vehicles are fueled. If transportation assistance is required, contact the District of Lillooet Emergency Operations Centre at 250-256-0013.
• Arrange accommodation with family or friends outside the alert area, if possible.
• Pre-register for Emergency Support Services online at ess.gov.bc.ca.
• Monitor the District of Lillooet website (www.lillooet.ca), the District of Lillooet Facebook page and Voyent Alert for updates.
• Await a formal Evacuation Order before leaving.
